It has been too long since I updated this but I have been exceptionally busy with work – out filming and interviewing people during the Olympic torch relay – and other things – mopping up after the floods, for example.
Today, I wrote up the 2010/11 season for 1,309 Days Later and it didn’t take too long because in a season where we were consistently thrashed I hardly bothered to record large parts of it. I was also ill for much of the year but it was an important one as we made sure the club developed in the right way ahead of our big move:
The end of season brought with it mixed feelings. We were relieved to have got through it and got it out of the way ahead of a new start fielding one team in the East League. We had enjoyed some bright moments, with the win against Long Buckby and the improvement our young players – particularly Leadenham and Clark – were making was especially encouraging.
At the end of the season I decided to stand down as club chairman. Having at various points in the previous three seasons picked teams, run training, driven to and from matches, captained teams and dealt with issues off the pitch, I wanted to concentrate simply on playing – and reporting – when we began the next leg of our next journey.
1,309 Days Later, the story of how Grantham Men’s 1st XI went over three years without a league victory, is due to published later this year. A proportion of any royalties will go back into the club to support grass roots hockey.
