Perhaps I might just get 1,309 Days Later published before the Olympics. Today I finished the first half of the 2011/12 season and with just eight more matches to write up, it is looking promising. I will also have to write a couple of extra chapters looking ahead to the future but I might hold those back while I publish to Kindle on Thursday/Friday.
Here’s an extract:
This was another hard-earned victory and an incredibly satisfying one. For more than half the match we had played with 10 men and lacking the experience of Starr and Gray, we produced a mature performance, particularly as a few Boston players appeared to be intent on winding us up. One player rammed his stick between my legs as I had the ball. I stopped, and was about to remonstrate with umpire Dean Newell when he did blow his whistle to award the foul, telling me he was waiting to see if I was going to play on. It would have been a touch difficult considering I would have had to effectively jump a small hurdle before doing so. “Not with my knees,” I told him.
That ended the winter, and we were again fortunate to not lose any matches to bad weather. The last thing we would have wanted later on in the season would have been a fixture pile-up. We were delighted to sit atop the league; it made a lovely Christmas present.
In other news, Return To The Crease has made it back into the top 10 cricket books in the UK Kindle store, so it could end up paying for itself before too long. I’m not about to retire on the meagre profits but it’s nice to know it hasn’t been a complete waste of time or effort.
