If you didn’t see my previous post, I’ve built a fantasy football league where you have 70 units to spend on English teams (picking at least two per division in the top four tiers), aiming to rack up points based on their on-field performance.
Friends and family are playing along and competing against AI LLMs and I’ve now devised a European version where players (AIs and human) are invited to select at least three teams from each tournament (Champions League, Europa League and Conference League) with a maximum spend of 90 units.
Can we beat the AI? For what it’s worth, my Premier League team is currently doing just that with a total of 67 points. Llama is next best with 61, but how well will they do when it comes to European football?
Let’s meet the contenders and see what they’ve come up with:
Gemini | Dortmund, Barcelona, Benfica, Ajax, Porto, Slavia Prague, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Gent |
Poe Assistant | Real Madrid, Benfica, Leverkusen, Ajax, Lyon, Braga, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Gent |
Claude | Liverpool, Atalanta, Benfica, Man Utd, Frankfurt, Galatasaray, Copenhagen, Gent, LASK |
JP (that’s me!) | Barcelona, PSG, Leverkusen, Frankfurt, Porto, Olympiacos, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Real Betis |
ChatGPT | Man City, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Roma, Real Sociedad, Nice, Fiorentina, Molde, Lugano |
Llama | Bayern, Barcelona, Benfica, Roma, Rangers, Lazio, Chelsea, Gent, LASK |
CoPilot | Man City, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Man Utd, Braga, Ludogorets, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Vitoria |
GPT4o | Bayern, Inter, Arsenal, Roma, Fenerbahce, Union Saint-Gilloise, Gent, LASK, Pafos |
Mistral | Man City, Liverpool, Juventus, Roma, Lazio, Frankfurt, Gent, Fiorentina, Legia Warsaw |
Fancy a crack at beating the AI?
Here are the teams and values – remember your budget is 90 units and you must have at least three teams from each competition. They’ll earn three points per win, and one point per draw throughout the tournament – so for this I’m excluding extra-time, penalties and any bonuses for reaching a certain stage or winning the tournament, so choose wisely!
