Today I wrote up the main hook point of 1,309 Days Later, the game where Grantham Hockey Club finally won a league game after three years of trying.
Re-reading the report, press release and coverage we got in the Journal brought back some happy memories, although we were quickly brought back to earth with defeats afterwards:
Parading a new set of shirts that I had worked hard to secure, we looked the part but our performance didn’t match our appearance.
I have also put Return To The Crease through CreateSpace so it will be available as a paperback – so far it has only been available as an e-book. I am interested to see whether it still costs the same to get proofs and other copies printed and posted as previously, everything operated out of USA so it was quite a costly and lengthy process.
It will make a huge difference when I come to release 1,309 Days Later as I plan to send it out to media outlets and I’m sure there will be people in and around the club, and Grantham, who would like to have a look.
With my book on the upcoming England-South Africa series at the back of my mind I’m listening to South Africa hammering our England team in the rugby. I hope the cricket series is a bit more competitive.
1,309 Days Later, the story of how Grantham Men’s 1st XI went over three years without a league victory, is due to published later this year. A proportion of any royalties will go back into the club to support grass roots hockey.
My diary of the England-South Africa Test series will be published in August, as part of a series analysing England’s rise and fall from the number one spot in the Test rankings.
